Workshop Overview

In this workshop we are focusing on connecting SAP ECC & SAP S/4HANA using the MuleSoft Anypoint Platform and building an API-led Architecture in order to decouple an organization’s core systems.

1. Use Case

The organization we are working with is undergoing a Customer 360 initative, having customer data stored in SAP ECC and Salesforce CRM. Currently there is no synchronization between these systems but the company wants to establish an application where sales reps can search for all accounts inside the organization and retrieve important information. Therefore we are foreseeing an API-led Architecture in order to scale for the future

Current State - Migration Scenario

With MuleSoft you can build assets for your migration process to prepare in Test / Q&A and shift to production. You not only can do batch migrations, you can also run your systems in parallel and make sure that your migration is a continuous process.

Future State - Fast Forward to 2024

The organization has to move to SAP S/4HANA, while already some account data has been migrated to the new SAP system, some account data still resides in SAP ECC as this system will still be available for all archived data.

overview2

In this workshop we want to learn how to unlock and orchestrate data in a seamless way even for a complex ecosystem such as this one where data resides in different critical systems and it’s being used from all these systems in parallel while undergoing a data migration at the same time.

For this workshop, we have already published the first scenario in order that you can experience what you will build today. The Customer 360 web application is accessible here: Workshop Test Client.

After you complete Module 3, you can search for: uni or test and you will see a result similar to this:

overview3

We will use this test client to search for account information from SAP ECC and SAP S/4HANA. This will call the web app experience API which in turn gets all the data required by reusing the Account Process API.

But someone has to build all these APIs. In the next Modules you will:

  • Build SAP ECC System API

  • Create the API specification for the SAP S/4HANA API

  • Build the SAP S/4HANA System API

  • Modify the Account Process API to also serve the Web app API with Account data from S/4Hana
